New DLC, Content Service, and Double XP Weekend

We've got some exclusive news and some new dates for you all. It looks like EA/DICE is rolling out a premium content service, and are also planning to drop 5th expansion after their previously announced End Game DLC. In addition, there will be a DOUBLE XP WEEKEND this weekend, May 12th - 14th!

Battlefield Premium : June 4th

Battlefield™ Premium will land you a number of content drops with unique in-game items not available anywhere else. First out is the one-of-a-kind Premium knife and black dog tag, plus a set of soldier camos, weapon camos, dog tags and Assignments that will make sure you stand out and get more personalization options.

Battlefield 3: Close Quarters Donya Fortress Gameplay Trailer

As you may already know, we are gearing up for a June release of our upcoming themed expanion pack Battlefield 3™: Close Quarters. If you’ve followed us lately here on the Battlefield Blog, you know this is an expansion pack where we move the battlefield indoors to present relentless infantry action with unprecedented HD Destruction.
Having recently held a European and U.S. media event, we are proud to present the second of four maps included in Close Quarters, dubbed Donya Fortress (internally called simply “Palace” after its working name). In today’s new gameplay trailer, you’ll see more of the gameplay changing HD Destruction, plus a glimpse of the new game mode Conquest Domination. Conquest Domination is basically a clever mix of the tactical Conquest mode and the instant action gameplay approach in Close Quarters, tailored to the tight level design and frantic close quarters combat.

BF3 PC Client R7 is due on Fri Apr 27th

We will publish an update to the BF3 PC game client on the morning of Friday April 27th.

The game client is compatible with the currently-live clients and servers.
There will not be any corresponding updates of game servers or central servers.
There will not be any downtime for Battlelog.

Since the patch is only code changes, it will be fairly small. I don't have the exact size in MB at hand, but expect it to be less than 100MB in size.

Battlefield 3 Close Quarters PAX gameplay

The annual PAX video game convention is underway, and DICE is showcasing the upcoming Battlefield 3 DLC Close Quarters. Someone managed to sneak a few minutes of Close Quarters gameplay on one of the new maps, Ziba Tower. While the footage is not perfect (it’s off screen), it does show what the new DLC is all about: very tense, close quarter-based infantry combat. Fans of the Operation Metro map should be delighted.

'Battlefield 3 Patch', this is one of the most popular keywords relating to BF3 right now, and it makes sense. The next BF3 patch has been talked about by developers and gaming sites like this one since December. Over the past few weeks there's been multiple comments by DICE and EA officials about the next patch, teasing plenty of new features. One thing that the developers are hesitant to talk about, is when these fixes will actually be released. But on Twitter today, DICE's head CM, Daniel Matros stated that he hopes to be able to announce the release date of the next Battlefield 3 patch.
